Axis: Bold as Love is the second studio album by English-American rock band the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was recorded to fulfill the Experience's contract, which stated that they had to produce two records in 1967.

Album: Axis Bold As Love. Previously on NewAlbumReleases. net: August 29, 2015 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Freedom: Atlanta Pop Festival Live (2015). Jimi Hendrix's second album followed up his groundbreaking debut effort with a solid collection of great tunes and great interactive playing between himself, Noel Redding, Mitch Mitchell, and the recording studio itself. Wisely retaining manager Chas Chandler to produce the album and Eddie Kramer as engineer, Hendrix stretched further musically than the first album, but even more so as a songwriter. He was still quite capable of coming up with spacy rockers like "You Got Me Floating," "Up from the Skies," and "Little Miss Lover," radio-ready to follow on the.

Coming off his debut album Jimi Hendrix was trying to expand his musical horizons. His first album Are You Experienced" is no doubt a classic but Jimi was getting tired of having a limited setlist at shows so in the same year 1967 he went back into the studio and recorded a more undershowed album called Axis: Bold as Love. The album combined elemants of rock, blues, pyschedelic and even a little jazz. The album is still considered a classic but it is sandwiched between his two most popular album Are You Experienced" and Electric Ladyland

Axis: Bold As Love, the sensational sophomore release of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, showcased Hendrix's expansive experimentation while acknowledging his early R&B and soul music influences.

This is perhaps the boldest of The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s three amazing LP’s which also makes Axis: Bold as Love the most interesting to listen to. As is the same with their other two records, the instrumentals and lyrics are very strong and stick with you long after the album ends. Axis: Bold as Love is most definitely the strongest of the three Hendrix LP’s and will go down in history as a game-changing masterpiece.

  • Many pick "Are You Experienced" or "Electric Ladyland" as the albums to get when it comes to Jimi Hendrix. I tend to side with this one. Every song is a classic, from "Up From The Skies" to "Bold As Love." There is some fantastic guitar playing on this album and Hendrix uses the studio to get sounds and phasing like nobody else at the time. Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding provide excellent backing. And how can you not review this album and not mention "Little Wing." It is one of the most gorgeous pieces of music Hendrix would ever write. Overall, this album is essential. The most popular songs are found on the other two albums listed above. But, popular doesn't mean it is the best.

  • An absolutely gorgeous collection of songs. Hendrix had the unenviable task of following up one of the most brilliant debut records ever and pulls it off with ease. While there are fewer radio staples on this album, every song is wonderful in its own way. After proving what an innovative and devastating guitar player he was with his 1st record, AXIS is a more mature & relatively laid back album. It contains some of Jimi's most beautiful ballads and balances his manic fury with more refined sense of finesse in these performances. Highlights: "Little Wing", "If 6 Was 9", "Bold As Love", "One Rainy Wish" & "Castles Made Of Sand". (Do I have to stop there?)

  • After Electric Ladyland the greatest album of all time.

  • Caught between two undisputed rock cornerstones, Hendrix's second album is his most focused and song-oriented — all things being relative of course. Hendrix, bassist Noel Redding, and drummer Mitch Mitchell hit on an intoxicating mix of psychedelic rock, strutting soul, and proto-metal. For all of the accolades heaped on Hendrix over the decades, his skills as a songwriter often seem under-appreciated, and Axis might be the best example of his lyrical talents — a fusion of classic R&B-style posturing and bizarre, Dylanesque stream-of-consciousness imagery. "Spanish Castle Magic," "If 6 Was 9," "Castles Made of Sand," "Bold As Love" and the surprisingly gentle "Little Wing" each rank among his most rewarding compositions. That said, the freaked-out R&B grooves of tracks like "Up from the Skies" and "Wait Until Tomorrow" are quite appealing, reminding us of Hendrix's prowess as a funky rhythm player.

  • This album is all time. Listening to it in the background or superficially, some songs may sound ordinary or be regarded as forgettable. But listening to it intensely, the mind is transported to another plane. It is so psychedelic, so trippy, gets the mind so high, but in a very smooth & refined way. Some ordinary song lyrics, such as Shes So Fine. You Got Me Floating & Ain't No Telling, are elevated by outstanding music. The song writing/lyrics of the other songs are masterpieces. By the time One Rainy Wishes ends, the mind is so elevated. The final song is so masterful. 5 stars. Easy.

  • Introspective and personal. Outstanding and outrageous. Otherworldly and unnatural. Each track works perfectly with the following and preceding. It is packed with untouched originality and beauty. Axis: Bold as Love truly is an Experience like none other.

  • Jimi is the best of the best, and every singl song or an album it's other dimension!

  • Hendrix continued to evolve, experimenting with technology and stretching out lyrically. He is still fantastic on everything and this is an album of great moments, but, in my opinion, not quite as perfect as "Are You Experienced". Amongst "Spanish Castle Magic", "Castles Made of Sand" and most of all, "Little Wing", which are often, quite rightly, picked on "best of" albums, there is some of his most forgettable studio work, however "Up From The Skies" and "One Rainy Wish" are a couple of my favourite Hendrix compositions that are greatly overlooked.

  • This album brings me JOY every time i hear it...this album is the definition of JOY .That's all what i wanted to say...

  • One of the first LPs I've bought, and one of his greatest recordings still. I am still playing this record and yet I can hear overlooked phrases, divine guitarplaying and good lyrics.
