Coup d'Etat (stylized as COUP D'ETAT) is the second studio album by South Korean rapper G-Dragon, member and leader of the K-pop group Big Bang. The first five tracks of the album were released on September 2, 2013, the next seven tracks were released on September 5, and physical copies were released on September 13. The album contains the single "MichiGO" which was released earlier in 2013.

K-pop rapper and Big Bang member G-Dragon set his sights on America with his 2013 effort Coup D'etat, Pt. 1, an album that features producers Baauer and Diplo along with rapper Missy Elliot as guest artists. Check the lead single "MichiGo," and "I Love It" with Zion. Coup d’Etat is a clear attempt at crossover, with guest spots from Missy Elliott, Baauer, Sky Ferreira, and Diplo. The Korean pop star Kwon Ji-yong- best known as G-Dragon- is such a force at home that six tracks from his new solo album Coup d’Etat, released earlier this month, have already cracked the country’s top 10. Ji-yong, a national figure since rising to prominence in the enormously popular and quite good Korean boy band Big Bang, has been fleshing out his solo agenda, which so far has seen 2009’s so-so solo debut Heartbreaker and the more exploratory 2012 EP One of a Kind. Setting up a career trajectory not unlike that of Justin Timberlake, many have noted

G-Dragon's 'COUP D'ETAT': First Listen. Pt. 1" featured high-profile collaborations with Missy Elliott, Sky Ferreira and was led by the title track, produced by Diplo and Baauer. The accompanying music video has earned more than . million views since its Sept. G-Dragon's Billboard 200 appearance marks K-pop's latest mark on the chart, but not the highest. That honor still goes to a splinter group of nine-member girl group Girls' Generation. The "Twinkle" EP by Girls' Generation - TTS hit No. 126 in May 2012.

  • G Dragon has no doubt had the most successful solo career, compared to the other members of Big Bang- his flashy haircuts, fashion taste, and catchy hooks make his solo work easily distinguishable. Since his massive success with his 2012 EP "One of a Kind", he wanted to attract more Western audience- and that's the album's biggest problem. This album has 7 different featured Western artists, including the likes of Missy Elliot-someone who has not charted or has been relevant for a long period of time. The best track with an English artist is "Black" with a chorus sung by Sky Ferreria. Her calm, sad vocals fit the mood of the track well. This album also feels too long- there are 12 tracks in all, and most are not bad, but not interesting either. Overall, G-Dragon seems like he's in a huge rush to get more Western fans.
