Polkas: Mike Coen's Polka, The Branch Line. 8. Jigs: Have A Drink With Me, The Blarney Pilgrim. Recorded By Mick Moloney In Jack Coen's Living Room In The Bronx, New York, February And July 1976.

Jack Coen was born in 1925 in Woodford, County Galway, on the west coast of Ireland, the second of nine children. His family operated a subsistence farm and earned money from raising cattle. When he was a child, Coen says, "If the boys and girls wanted to dance, they'd come to our house. Jack and Charlie Coen were part of the scene around the New York Ceili Band in the 1950s, where they played with Andy McGann, Larry Redican, and Paddy O’Brien during his six years in America. The pace is moderate by today’s standards and the playing "simple": gorgeous music. Posted by Bloomfield 16 years ago. Re: The Branch Line. A Fine Album to play along with on your instrument. The Tunes shine through clearly. Liner notes state that "ornamentation is used economically".

This is a 1992 re-release of a classic 1977 Topic album. With reels, jigs, hornpipes, flings, and polkas, by each musician solo and by the pair of them, this is real traditional Irish music at its best.
