Nature Needs Kids & Kids Need Nature.

So I decided to hold a nature even. based around my book characters The Little Humbugs. The Humbugs live their lives not dissimilar to how we all used to live, just like indigenous people who respect and live in harmony with Mother Earth. This event is raising funds to help kids with cancer. We hope to raise enough funds to allow several cancer patients the opportunity to have a fun day in nature. If you would like to get involved helping to raise awareness of such an important cause please contact me: infolehumbugs. com or why not become a Little Humbugs Ambassador.

And part of needing nature is needing to handle the creepy-crawly parts - in short, the most interesting stuff out there. If my kids are outside, my kids are trying to capture small creatures, generally of the reptilian variety. No Carolina anole is safe in my yard. In fact, the kids have spent so much time trying to catch them that we’ve named the ones in various territories: the giant blackish one on the trash can; his small, hissy challenger. There’s the striped skink that lives under the porch column and the giant brown skink that crawled from my nightmares to take up residence under some lumber. Some people might think this is savage

Nature was a part of every day for me. It’s important to make outdoor play a priority for kids. A study released by environmental organisation Planet Ark, called Climbing Trees: Getting Aussie Kids Back Outdoors, found 72 per cent of respondents played outside every day as kids, compared with 35 per cent of their children.
